Mathias Bohn, aged 64 years, 11 months, 4 days.
Mr. Bohn was actually born in the village of Torontálszécsány, which, at the time, lay in the principality of Austria-Hungary. Presently, the village lies in the Central Banat District of the Province of Vojvodina, in northern Serbia. He emigrated to The United States in 1901, and settled in Montana. He was naturalized there, in the town of Miles City, in Custer County, on May 23, 1913.
He married Anna Regina Pauschke on March 6, 1905, in Chicago, and, over the next 17 years, he and Anna had 10 children: Emelia, in 1905, Mathias Jr., in 1907, Kathrine, in 1908, Pauline, in 1910, John, in 1912, Hermina, in 1914 (Died in 1915), Herman, in 1916, Karl, in 1918, Frank, in 1921, and Alvin, in 1922.
He was found unconscious in a theatre in Gladstone, North Dakota, in early June, of 1940, and was taken to the local hospital, where it was determined that he'd suffered a stroke. He remained in a coma until he died a few days later, on June 10.
He was penniless, and had been living on a $16-a-month government relief check. His few belongings - Tools, an old car, etc. - Were sold, to pay the undertaker, and his funeral was paid for by a German social club, of which he was a member, at the time. He was buried in a worn old suit, found in his trunk.
