Jean Alberta Ruth Adams-Sow, M.D., Sokhna Alimatou Nydja Sow, and Malik Aziz Sow died early Wednesday morning, May 10, 2006 at 5:45 a.m.

Jean confessed her belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church. She served God during her youth through service in the Youth Choir Ministry and as an adult continued her spiritual growth through Bible Study and Research.

Jean was a 1983, graduate of the Greensville County High School where she was an accomplished academic student, especially in Mathematics and Science. In 1987, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Medicine from St. Augustine College, Raleigh, NC where she graduated Magma Cum Laude. Amongst other accolades; she traveled internationally and was awarded the Academic Vice President's Award for Outstanding Academic Performance in London, England. She continued her studies at Ohio State University College of Medicine receiving her Doctor of Medicine degreee on June 13, 1997. She practiced medicine in Virginia Beach, VA before moving with her family to Charlotte, NC where she worked in Medical Research and Development.

While in Ohio, Jean married Mamadou Sow of Senegal, West Africa. She was the loving, devoted mother of four children, Rokhaya, the surviving child, Nydja, Malik, and Kofe Haun Sow (deceased at infancy).

Nydja and Malik were both very well mannered children, they did well in school and fluently spoke a total of three languages Wolof, French, and English. They began their education at the Smith Language Academy while in Charlotte, NC. They enjoyed attending Sunday School at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Sokhna Alimatou Nydja Sow "Nydja," was born in Columbus, OH on April 21, 1997. She was a student in the 3rd grade at Weldon Elementary School, Weldon, NC. Nydja really enjoyed dancing and made the cutest ballerina. Playing dress-up with clothes, make-up and all was Nydja's idea of truly having a ball. Nydja was very creative, a fine painter and she loved to read. She was a self-taught keyboardist; she could copy a tune with ease. Her favorite color was pink and her all-time favorite snack was french fries. Nydja was thoughtful and caring with a graceful spirit and a kind heart.

Malik Aziz Sow was born in Virginia Beach, VA on June 11, 1998. He was in the 2nd grade at Weldon Elementary School, Weldon, NC. Malik was a true math wiz and enjoyed the challenge of a tough math problem. He was very athletic; he loved playing baseball and basketball however soccer was his favorite. He was a really fast runner and the winner of many foot races in Grandma Linda's backyard. Malik was an avid videogame player and was an extraordinary opponent in the game of chess. His favorite color was blue. He enjoyed eating tossed salad; his favorite food was macaroni and cheese. He had a big loving smile for everyone with his easygoing and charismatic demeanor. Malik was a little gentleman.

Jean and children (Nydja, and Malik) leave behind to cherish their memories, beloved eldest daughter and sister Rokhaya AbyJean Sow, father Mamadou Sow, devoted mother and grandmother, Linda P. Adams; grandparents Samba Yero and Rokhaya Sow.

Funeral services for Jean Alberta Ruth Adams, M.D., Sokhna Nydja Sow and Malik A. Sow were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 30 Quarrell Road, Emporia, VA.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the staff of the James M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc.,Petersburg, VA.
