The boys attended school in Bethel, Locker and Richland Springs. Eugene was drafted out of high school during WWII and served in the Navy. He later received his high school diploma. Leroy joined the Merchant Marines during WWII. He joined the Navy during the Korean conflict along with his brother Ralph. They served their time on board the same ship. Ralph attended Sul Ross College at Alpine after his discharge from the Navy. The three brothers married and raised families. Eugene remained in San Saba County.
