Death: Nov. 17, 2004

World Champion Skeet and Trap Shooter. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he was a target shooting legend who parlayed his success on the trap and skeet fields to form the Bob Allen Company in 1946. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, eventually becoming the gunnery officer for the entire B-29 fleet of the 20th Air Force. He participated in the numerous combat missions as a central fire control gunner and was based on the island of Tinian when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. His shooting awards included two World All Around Championships, winning the Grand Prix of France in 1956, 72 state championships in 17 states, four Hall of Fame designations including: Trapshooting Hall of Fame, the state of Iowa, International Hall of Fame in 1970, part of the all American Trapshooting team for 11 years, and national doubles champ in 1957. He was inducted into the Des Moines Register Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Shortly before his death he had finished his autobiography, "Shooter, The Life and Times of Bob Allen." Cause of death: automobile accident, near Omaha, Nebraska.
