He was born May 4, 1921 in Swainsboro, Ga., and was a Graduate of Swainsboro High School where he played all sports, and he attended North Georgia College before joining the U.S. Navy where he served his country in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Thelma Ree Braddy and resided in Savannah, where he worked for Savannah Electric and Power Co., for 32 years before leaving to start several prosperous businesses, including Braddy Electric Co., Golden Blend Hush Puppies, Georgia Sound and Recording, Coastal Maintenance, Custom Engineering and Ga Coastal Electric.
He was an active participant in the community in coaching Savannah youth league athletics. His company, along with Dan Vaden Chevrolet and WTOC's Doug Weathers, brought back Savannah's "Tree of Light" tradition, which is still celebrated today.
He was a member of Ancient Landmark Lodge # 231, F. & A.M's, the York Rite Commandery, the Scottish Rite Consistory – Valley of Savannah, Alee Shrine Temple, and the Old Times Soft Ball League. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union, and had just recently received his 65 year pin.
He is survived by two sons and daughters in law, from Savannah, Gerald and Pamela Braddy, Glenn and Suzanne Braddy, a daughter and son in law, Ann and Larry Cosnahan of Guyton, Ga; 8 grandchildren, Angie Tindle, Joshua, Jerry, Gabriel, Abigail, Victoria, Joseph of Savannah, Albert Cosnahan of Metter, Ga., three great grand children , Jacob and Hannah Tindle, and Lillia Braddy.
Like children, John and Brenda McCuten, Wayne and Pat Christian, Ben and Sue Boyette, Jeff and Faye Wilson and Denny Herb. Care taker and close friend, Betty Johnson and her family.
Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home.
Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Bible Baptist Church, 2020 Tennessee Ave, Savannah, Ga 31404, with Rev. Wayne Merritt, officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be: Joshua, Gabriel, Jerry, Joseph, Albert, and Ed McCuen. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Old Timers Softball Team.
Mr. Braddy will be taken to the church at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to lie in state.
