Mrs. Linda K. Lewis Baltzer, 60, widow of William G."Bill" Baltzer, well-known banker, and a resident of General Roberts Drive in Columbia, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at NHC/Columbia Health Care.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baltzer will be conducted Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Maury County, she is the daughter of the late Carl John and Ruby Cecil Shouse Lewis. Mrs. Baltzer was a 1967 graduate of Santa Fe High School. Mrs. Baltzer had a lifetime career in banking, having begun at the age of 18. She was a long-time branch manager of the Hatcher Lane Bank of America. In 1994, she retired from banking, but returned a few years later. A long-time volunteer of many organizations, she was very active with Hope House and Habitat for Humanity, serving both as a board member for many years. Mrs. Baltzer was Ward 5 Councilwoman from 2000 through 2003; a very active member of the Maury County Chamber of Commerce; Columbia Business and Professional Womens Association, where she was past president and formerly named "Woman of the Year"; the Maury County Public Education Foundation, Board Member; an American Red Cross Hero, and chaired the American Red Cross Hero's Campaign for 3 years; the Kidney Foundation; American Cancer Society; American Heart Association; Elks Lodge; Maury County Benefit Ball; the Dance Group; the Red Hat Society; and many more. If there was an organization in Maury County and it benefited someone or something, she was involved in it. She helped many people in many ways; sitting with them, driving them places, etc. She enjoyed traveling to Tunica with special friends, Frances Sowell and Polly Dodson. Mrs. Baltzer was a person who touched the lives of many people in this community through personal actions and organizations. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Baltzer is survived by two brothers, Jerry W. (Barbara) Lewis of Columbia, and Cecil (Esterlene) Lewis of Lawrenceburg; two nieces, Libby (Tim) Luther of Santa Fe, and Wanda Keller of Columbia; one nephew, James Nelson Lewis of Santa Fe; great-niece, Shelby Luther of Santa Fe; great-nephew, Sean Luther of Santa Fe; an aunt, Jennie Mae Beard of Santa Fe; two step-daughters, Deborah (Tony) Hinson of Pennsylvania, and Glenda (David, Sr.) Andrews of Spring Hill; four step-sons, Danny (Brenda) Ferguson of Hohenwald, Ken (Barbara) Baltzer of Columbia, Mike (Patti) Baltzer of Columbia, Craig (Anita) Baltzer of Nolensville; 15 grandchildren, Kip (Tiby) Ferguson, Jeremy (Michelle) Carroll, Kelly (David) Osborne, Matthew Baltzer, Brent Baltzer, Terah Beth (Justin) Varga, Jessica Amorello, Tonya (Jay) Sweeney, Nikki (Will) Cartwright, Christopher (Mandy) Baltzer, Charly Baltzer, Dawn (Dwayne) Thacker, Jessica (Brian) Smotherman, Crystal (Paul) Mitchell, David (Shenan) Andrews, Jr.; and 23 great-granchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie (Emma Lou) Lewis, Nelson Lewis, and a grandson, James Craig Baltzer.
Active pallbearers will be Sean Luther, Will Cartwright, Kip Ferguson, David Andrews, Jr., Matthew Baltzer, Christopher Baltzer, Jay Sweeney, Brent Baltzer, and Paul Mitchell. Honorary guests are Pee Wee Johnson, Junior Faulkner, Arch Warren, board members of Hope House, members of Northside Baptist Church, staff of Bank of America, and board members of Habitat for Humanity.
