Richard Karr “Dick” Baugher, 77 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born May 9, 1939 at Lexington, Nebraska to Vernon and Olive (Karr) Baugher. When he was 8 years old, the family moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where he received his education, graduating from Hastings High School with the class of 1958. He then continued his education at Hastings College and Kearney State College.

Following his education, Dick enlisted into the United States Army Reserves on February 4, 1961 and went to basic training. During this time he also attended barbering school. Dick transferred to the Army National Guard and then continued his service with the Nebraska National Guard.

On April 28, 1962, Dick was united in marriage to Marelyn June Krull and the couple was blessed with two children: Deborah and Scott. The couple made their home in North Platte and later in Holdrege, where Dick was a barber for many years. He then began to work for the Nebraska National Guard, as an administrative supply tech. In 1967, the family moved to Holdrege, where Dick continued to work for the National Guard for 30 years and was a part-time barber.

Dick loved helping during harvests for the Eugene Ecklun family, where he operated the grain cart and drove trucks for over 35 years. On April 28th, 2017, Dick and Marelyn celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary.

Dick was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandson, Dylan and going for rides in the car with his son, Scott.

Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by step-father, Delayne Dunbar; sister, Donna Groshans; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ted Heckman.

Dick leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Marelyn of Holdrege; children: Deb Nelson and Scott Baugher of Holdrege; grandson, Dylan Nelson of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Connie Johnson and her husband, Charlie of Sutton, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Richard Krull of Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
