Ruth Anna Adcock

Ruth Anna Adcock, 84, of Hiawatha, KS passed away on June 1, 2004, at a Hiawatha hospital.

Ruth Anna Wigand was born October 11, 1919, in Nortonville, KS, the daughter of Martin and Catherine Schrick Wigand.

She was raised in the Nortonville and Effingham areas. Mrs. Adcock worked in Hiawatha for Mid-Central Egg Plant, McDonald Clothing Store and Wilde Tool Company, where she retired after 27 years. She and her husband also farmed mainly in Brown County. During the summers, she worked in an antique store in Ouray, CO, and later worked for more than seven years at Golden Eagle Casino in Horton, KS as a greeter, retiring recently due to declining health. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hiawatha, a member of the church Altar Society and choir, and a church volunteer. She also was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to VFW Post 5210 of Hiawatha and the Hiawatha Community Hospital Auxiliary.

She married James "Harold" Adcock at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham, KS. He passed away on March 8, 1978. She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Emma Wohletz and Francis Koenig.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Adcock and wife Joyce, Yakima, WA, and Larry Adcock and wife Mary, Hiawatha; three sisters, Catherine Noll and Viola Wigand, both of Hiawatha, and Edith Hund, Paxico, KS; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial was held June 4, 2004 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hiawatha, with Abbot Ralph Koehler as celebrant. Interment followed in Denton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Adcock Memorial Fund, to be designated later by the family and sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S. Seventh St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.
