Leonard Dale Henson, 84, Ellenton, passed away on October 14, 2014. He was born on October 19, 1929 in Sidney, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. (Schwisow) Henson. They were married January 24, 1954 in Jansen, Nebraska and moved to Sarasota, Florida that same year. They had 3 children: John Henson who was born in 1955 and passed away in 2010; 2 daughters, Brenda Lovett and Jeanine Hammond; brother, Darrell; sister, Betty Wolaver; two grandsons, Jarrod and Trevor Lovett who both think their ''grandpa is awesome''. Leonard worked for Florida Power & Light for 39 years. He was the first apprentice lineman to successfully complete the ground breaking joint IBEW/FPL apprentice program and is still honored today. He was involved in the Local Union 820 when he worked for FPL. He was Union President for 16 years, he was Vice-President of System Council U4IBEW and he was on the Executive Board for 16 years as well. He helped coach little league and Babe Ruth baseball when his son John played. He liked bowling and bowled on a league with his son for several years. He also served on aircraft carriers in the Marine Corps for three years working on Corsair planes. Services will be 10AM Friday October 17, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 9608 U.S. 301, Parrish, FL 34219.
