Frances Mary Askey, 86, of Newnan, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at LaFayette Nursing Home in Fayetteville after an extended illness. Mrs. Askey was born to Frank and Tillie McKnight in 1916 in Cork City, Ireland. She lived in Ireland, France, and Canada before moving to Toledo, Ohio, where she lived for 73 years.

Mrs. Askey graduated Woodward High and attended the University of Toledo. For years, she was a bookkeeper for DeVeaux Appliance and then for Haupert Appliance, where she retired. She was married to James Askey for 59 years at his death. Together, they were active in many Toledo activities, including the Toledo Rose Society, Cars of the Past and Body Recall. An avid gardener, she won many prizes for her roses and flower arrangements.

Survivors include two children, James Bruce Askey and Elaine Askey of Newnan, Janice Meister and Charles Meister of Elmhurst, Ill; five grandchildren, David Askey and wife Shumei of Carlisle, Mass., Cheryl Cardella and husband Daniel of Raleigh, North Carolina, Daniel Askey and wife Nellie of Sharpsburg, Eric Meister and wife Michelle of Geneva, Ill., and Ethan Meister of Elmhust, Ill; and six great grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Cardella, Ellen Askey, Haley Askey, Andrew and Caroline Meister; two brothers, William McKnight and F. Rush McKnight and wife Nancy.

Mrs. Askey was preceded in death by her husband James and a brother, Robert McKnight.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Toledo, Ohio. Friends are encouraged to come by the funeral home Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, and sign her memory book.
