Not much is known about Ray Armstrong, but he was a beloved character in Kearney. The owner of the room where Ray lived charged him no rent and the restaurant where he ate charged him nothing for his meals. He was an honorary employee of one of the banks, where he helped unlock the building most mornings. Although he lies in the paupers' section of the cemetery, his grave is marked by a tombstone purchased by his friends at the bank. A former employee of the bank places flowers on his grave every Memorial Day.
