Milton joined the Confederate Army in August 1861 as a Private in Co. F, 4th Kentucky Infantry, of the famous Kentucky “Orphan” Brigade. He was a first cousin of John T. Blakeman and Daniel Blakeman, all in the same company. Milton was killed in action during an attack of the 4th Kentucky Infantry at the battle of Shiloh, TN, April 7, 1862. Milton Blakeman’s body likely lies in one of the mass Confederate graves on the Shiloh battlefield. This cenotaph is near his cousin John’s grave in the family cemetery. John Blakeman named one of his sons after Milton.
Cause of death: gunshot wound in battle.
