Living at 281 Elizabeth Ave. in Lansdowne all his life, he was a talented machinist, tool maker, and hard-working mechanic. A striking portrait was painted in the 1930's of him fixing a car (for the Workers Progress Administration) by his brother Leonard.
By 1932, his was married briefly to Jeannette R. ____. No recorded license for their marriage has been found yet, but she took his last name. The marriage was most likely annulled. Maurice remarried in 1954 and was the devoted husband of Dorothy M. Bahr (nee Sieck).
He loved to fish and often went to the Magothy River and further out to Gibson Island.
On 2/20/66, an article written by him was published in "The Sunday Sun Magazine," memorializing his home and the history of the Joshua section of Lansdowne, entitled "When Geese and Cows Roamed Lansdowne Streets." He was sent many letters of enthusiastic response from people who had lived in the area.
Maurice was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Lansdowne on January 5, 1901. Some family members said Maurice was a devout atheist, and he didn't necessarily go to church, but after talking to Maurice about spiritual matters before his death, I believe that any atheistic views by them regarding Maurice's beliefs were misinformed.
A heavy smoker of Lucky Strike cigarettes, Maurice passed this life at age 74 from lung cancer. He will be missed.
