John T. Crawford, son of Dan and Ella Crawford, was born in Mercer County, Mo.,
near Princeton, May 22, 1878.
He departed this life from Humansville, Missouri, April 6, 1947, at age 68
years, 10 months, and 14 days.
He moved with his parents to Grundy County near Trenton, when he was about three
years old and grew to manhood in that community. His mother died when he was
nine years old and his father preceded him in death, departing in 1932.

He was married to Rosa Selby, November 26, 1899. To this union six children
were born, five sons and one daughter. One son, Jewett, preceded him in death,
departing in 1920.

He came to this part of the state in 1903. First settling in Cedar County on a
farm four miles southwest of Humansville. In 1912 he moved to Humansville
where he resided until 1915 when he moved to a farm two miles south of
Humansville. He moved back to Humansville in 1926 and continued his residence
here until his death.

In March, 1923, he organized the Citizens Bank and served as president of that
institution until it merged with the Farmers and Merchants Bank in 1931.
Immediately after that, he went into the oil business with his son Raymond,
organizing the Crawford Oil Company, later another son, Selby, became
associated with them in the company.

He professed faith in Christ in early manhood and in 1937 united with the
Humansville Baptist Church where he served faithfully, being at the time of his
death the chairman of the Board of Deacons and Trustees.

He was injured in an automobile collision near Dunnegan, Missouri April 5, and
was brought to Humansville hospital where every service possible was given but
without avail and he departed April 6 at 8:30 p.m.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Rosa; four sons, Raymond of
Humansville, Guy of Birmingham, Alabama, Clay of Cabool, Missouri; and Selby of
Humansville; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Kearney of Columbia, Missouri; one
brother, Charley, of Trenton, Missouri; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Porter of
Trenton, Missouri; two aunts Addie Emery, his mother's twin sister, of Trenton,
Missouri; and Mrs. Martha McLaughlin of Thomas, Oklahoma; one uncle, Charley
Crawford of Trenton, Missouri; five grandchildren and many other relatives and
friends.

Funeral services were held at the Humansville Baptist Church April 9, 1947,
conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.E. Jackson, assisted by Rev. Robert Baker of
Springfield, Missouri and burial was in the Humansville Cemetery under
direction of the Primm Funeral Home.
