Born 1827 to parents Reuben Scott (b.1971, d.1860) and Mary T. Steel (b.1799, d.1848), father from South Carolina or Kentucky, mother from Tennessee or Virginia. At least two siblings – Mary (b.1831) and Sarah (b.1833). Father was a slave owner. At age 18, in 1846, married Rev. Robert Smith Symington (b.1819, d.1901). Three children – William A. (b.1847, d.1911), Mary A. (Mollie) Symington (b.1850, d.1907), and Cora L. (b.1856, d.1857). Recorded in Independence (per 1850 Census), Kansas City (per 1860 Census), and Pleasant Hill, Missouri (per 1870 Census). Adopted daughter Zoe Kemp (b.1862), date uncertain. Moved to California circa 1874. Recorded in Danville, Contra Costa County, California (per 1880 Census). Recorded in Danville with husband, sister Mary N. Scott, daughter Mollie, and son-in-law James E. Cameron (per 1900 Census). Shares family plot with husband Robert.
