Sarah was the daughter of Jesse M. Scott and Senia P. Malone. The Scotts moved from Caswell County, North Carolina to Carroll County, Georgia in 1839. Sarah was born there in 1844. The Scotts then moved to Benton County, Alabama in 1849. Benton was renamed Calhoun County in 1858.
