My name is Eric and I am one of her 10 grandchildren. She was the loving mother of 3, Jeannie, Johnny, and my mother, JoAnn. She was also a dedicated great grandmother to 19 , great-great grandmother to 1, honorary grandmother to many, and we all affectionately called her Gram.

It is difficult to put into words how much my Gram meant to me. Not only was she a loving, caring grandmother, but to my sister, Shelly, and I, she also was our friend, adviser, and second Mom. We shared our home with Gram our entire lives. We shared it all-- from birth through adulthood, including trips to the grocery store, trips to the beauty parlor, rummy 500 tournaments at her kitchen table until the wee hours of the night, the 85 Bears superbowl, sparkling grape juice new years eve toasts, backyard barbeques, birthday dinners, and every holiday. Of course, that also meant we had to endure watching Johnny Carson nightly, endless hours of polka dancing, spam sandwiches, and getting busted sneaking in the house at 5:00 in the morning. But Gram always knew the right words to say- just when I thought I was in trouble..she would laugh and tell me " Oh Boy, to be young again!".

As long as I can remember, my Gram has shared my everyday life. The memories and stories that I could share are endless. Some are hilarious, some are sad, some are happy, some are moving, but all are amazing and will always be cherished.

My Gram loved life, she had great faith, she loved her friends, she loved her cats, she loved baking, she loved dolls, she loved sewing and crafts, she loved dancing, she loved music, she loved to read, she loved to laugh, she loved to shop, but most of all she loved her family.

As most of you already know, Gram was the glue that helped keep our family together.

Her love for her family was unconditional and strong. No matter how challenging her economic state or health conditions were, she always made sure that every one in the family received a gift at christmas.

Christmas Eve will never be the same. No more laughing at the infamous grab bag gifts, no more boxes of cookies, and no more hugs that make you feel like a kid again.

Gram was passionate about unity. I sincerely hope that we will continue to honor her by preserving our family traditions and customs, no matter how many different directions life may pull us.

For me personally, walking in my front door at home will never be the same without seeing her beautiful smile. I will miss her cakes, her cornbread, her news paper clippings that she saved for me, among many, many other things. However, She always taught me to be grateful for what I have, and I feel so grateful and blessed to have had her in my life for 36 wonderful years.

In conclusion, I just want to say that even though we will all miss Gram dearly, she lived a long, happy life. She was full of love and shared it without question. She has touched each and every one of us in our own special way and we each have our own unique memories of her to carry on. So today, please say a prayer for her, celebrate her life , and pass along her wisdom and kindness. We are all better for having known her, and we are all lucky to have a new guardian angel to watch over us all.
