Don was a twin so he was 7th or 8th of the nine children born to William Southard (1891-1978) and Flossie Maize Hite (1893-1968). His parents moved from Dallas County, Missiouri around 1916 and the twins were born in Roberts County, Texas. Don married Linnie Farrell Holly (1932-), the daughter of Guy Ivy Holly (1912-2005) and Molly Bernice Hamrick (1915-1974), on November 22, 1952 in Pampa, Texas.

Donald Gene Southard

Donald Gene Southard, 80, of Lisbon, died Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System from cancer. Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon, is assisting the family. Don's cremated remains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean. There will be no visitation or service.

Surviving Donald are his wife, Linnie; a daughter, Shermalayne Szasz; three sons, Don, DeMar and David; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Don retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years. He and Linnie moved to Lisbon in 1986.
