Inscription reads: "This stone is erected to mark the spot where repose the remains of Wm. Cooper, ESQ., of Delaware City, Del., who died on his contract on the W. & R. R. R. the 19th May 1858 aged 35-8-22. His virtues endeared him to a large circle of friends, and his memory requires no better monument than that which lives in their recollection."
