Benjamin Dana was born in Cambridge, Mass. on February 20, 1659 or 1660, baptized on April 8, 1660 and died in Cambridge, Mass. on August 13, 1738. He was buried in old Cambridge burial ground in Harvard Square; the inscription on his stone is still plain and reads: "died in the 79th year of his age." He married Mary Buckminster of Brookline (probably daughter of Zechariah Buckminster or Buckmaster of Boston or Sherborn) on May 24, 1688. The Zechariah Buckminster who was a witness to the agreement for the division of Richard Dana's property on April 15, 1695 was probably the brother of Mary (Buckminster) Dana.
