In 1741 the section of Shrewsbury, currently known in 2015 as Boylston,
petitioned for a separate status as the North Precinct (aka 2d Parish of
Shrewsbury). The town of Boylston was formally incorporated in 1786.
Individuals who never moved may reference their records to be in Shrewsbury,
2d Parish of Shrewsbury, North Precinct, or Boylston. Daniel Ball was a
farmer by trade and lived in the easterly part of Boylston. [Boylston

Private Daniel Ball, Shrewsbury, Capt. Robert Andrew's co., which marched on
the alarm of April 19, 1775 from Shrewsbury (2d Parish) to Cambridge;
service 9 days; reported enlisted into the army; also Capt. Job Cushing's
co., Col. Jonathan War's reg.; muster roll dates August 1, 1775; enlisted
April 28, 1775; service 3 mos. 11 days; also company return dates
Dorchester, October 7, 1775; also order for bounty coat or its equivalent in
money, dates Dorchester Nov. 13, 1775. [Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors

According to Boylston town history, "after marching with Captain Andrews,
Daniel Ball joined the men marching with Captain Beaman's Company [the
Minutemen from the North Parish were commanded by Captain Robert Andrews, his second-in-command was Lt. Jonas Temple, and the third officer was Lt. Ezra Beaman] to Danbury on December 16, 1776, for three months. He later joined Captain Beaman's Company on June 6, 1777, and Captain Ebenezer Ingallsbee's Company of Shrewsbury in September 1777. This last Company wa part of Colonel Cushing's 6th Regiment, which went to the aid of General Schuyler in the New York State Campaign {Saratoga]." [Boylston Historical

Daniel Ball and Lydia Smith, were married 18 September 1778 by Rev. Eleazer
Fairbanks (no place named) [Shrewsbury M/R] Place of marriage recorded as
Shrewsbury in Massachusetts Vital Records.[MA V/R transcriptions, pg 122]
Their Marriage Intention filed on 30 May 1778 had stated both Daniel Ball
and Lydia Smith were of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.[Shrewsbury M/R]

Lydia (Smith) Ball, widow of Daniel Ball, collected widow's pension
commencing 29 June 1848. Pension records confirm Daniel Ball marched from
Shrewsbury 2nd Parish under Capt. Robert Andrews and enlisted in the united
colonies as a private from April 19 1775. He served in the Company of
Captain Cushing of the Regiment of Col. Ward in the Massachusetts militia
during the Revolutionary War. Lydia had stated that Daniel Ball had served
nearly three years 1775-1777 under Captain Bulknap, Captain Andrews &
Captain Ingleby or Eaglesby & Lieutenant Hinds. We was either from
Westminster or East Boylston, Massachusetts for his father lived part of the
time in each place. She thought he was at the taking of Burgoyne. Letter
signed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts confirmed his
military record. Lydia stated Daniel Ball had died 23 February 1830. The
children of Daniel Ball applied for a dependents pension after Lydia Ball's
of Troy, NH death. The children were: Patty Harris, Lucy Woodward, Daniel
Ball, Betsey Steenford, Olive Cobb and Lydia Thurston.[U.S. Revolutionary
