Julia B. Blackburn, 78, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, August 13, 1997, at a Columbus hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1918, in Franklin Furnace, a daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl Boynton Goddard, she was secretary and vice president of Julia Corporation, which was a corporation of six business schools in Ohio. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Alpha Iota Sorority, which was a business women's sorority, and former president of the Coterie Club. She formerly worked on many civic and humanitarian drives in Portsmouth. She was a graduate of Green Township High School and a graduate of Portsmouth Interstate Business College with an associate degree in business and helped organize the Portsmouth Sister City Committee.
Surviving is her husband, Leo Blackburn, whom she married August 21, 1937; two sons, David Blackburn of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Sam Blackburn of Chillicothe; a sister, Mary Frances Mitchell of Vincennes, Ind.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Interment in Memorial Burial Park.
