Bernt was born Bernt Sewall Mikkelsen in Norway to Mikkel Larsen and Oline Christoffersdatter. They came to the US in 1877 and settled in Sauk County, Wisconsin. He married Guri Anderson on February 13, 1883. After that, he ended up in Fergus Falls Insane Asylum. He was there from the late 1800's up until his death from Tuberculosis on October 29, 1929. I have requested his court and medical records to determine how he ended up there.

So, Bernt voluntarily committed himself to The hospital. He went to a DR, then through the courts and subsequently, was admitted to the hospital asylum. He suffered from depression, melancholy, just a sad person. No enthusiasm for life at all. He was intermittently evaluated, but stayed there until his death. He died from Tuberculosis.
