Rudolf R. Aussner, 79, died Wednesday, in a local hospital following several months of ill health.
Dr. Aussner was born in Elend, Germany, in 1925, but spent his formative years in Ober Ursel, Germany, and Vienna, Austria.
He served the German Navy as an officer in World War II. Following the war he obtained an undergraduate degree from Andrews University in Michigan, a master's degree from Notre Dame University, and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Aussner was quite active in establishing missions for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Middle East and in Nicaragua. He retired as the police psychologist for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department in Tampa, FL, as well as many other endeavors through out his life.
Rudolf Aussner was a colorful personality who in many respects was a man of a different age. He was loved and cherished by his family, and will be greatly missed and forever in the thoughts of many.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roderich Aussner and mother, Lucy Klinkau Aussner.
He is survived by Kathe Aussner, his wife of over 50 years; one daughter, Barbara Aussner Dickerson; son-in-law, Lee Dickerson; one granddaughter, Katherine Dickerson, all of Collegedale; one sister, Rosel Helfmann of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, at Collegedale Memorial Gardens with Elder Douglas Bennett officiating.
