Ronald M. Wenberg, 87, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, Dec 4, 2015, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. A memorial service will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 12th, at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Pastor Dave Peterson officiating. A visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 11th at David-Donehower Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4:00 pm and a time of sharing to follow. Ronald M. Wenberg, son of Dr. Roy and Myrtle Wenberg, was born November 30th, 1928, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1947, and earned a teaching degree in 1953 from Mankato State University. He received his Masters of Science degree from Mankato State in 1959. In 1954 he joined the Detroit Lakes Public School System and served as an Industrial Arts instructor until his retirement in 1985. Ronald served 40 years in the Army National Guard, including a 16-month Korean War deployment, until his military retirement in 1988. He married Bonita Heindl on March 24, 1958, and they made their home in Detroit Lakes, where they remained the rest of their lives. A lifetime member of the American Legion Post 15, he served as its Commander from 1972 - 1973. He was also a member of the Eagles and served a term as President. Ron was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening and entertaining family and friends at his home. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonita; a son, Bill; his parents; and a sister, Gwen. Survivors include his daughter, Wendy (Loren); a son, David (Susan); daughter-in-law, Rhonda; grandchildren, Shane (Renee), Lucas (Jen), Jamie, Katie and Ricky, great grandchildren Owen, Carter, Walker, Cole and Lola; a brother Lowell; and friend Judy.
