Johanna Nilsdotter
Gender: Female
Birth:
Immediate Family:
Daughter of Nils Jonsson and Catarina Jonsson who later farmed at Grännarp farm.
Wife of Johannes Andersson
Mother of 2 children who survived to adulthood:
1. Johanna Matilda Andersson b. 21 Apr 1866 at Lilla Bergsgården, Bredene, Smula parish, Falköpings Län, Sweden (married Edward A. Olsen) of Nelson, Minnesota and
2. Gustav Andersson, b. 27 Apr 1859 at Lilla Bergsgården, Bredene, Smula, Västra Götaland, Sweden (married Christine Peterson). They eventually moved to California.
Two children died in Sweden before emigration:
3. Alfred Andersson b. 27 April 1859 (twin to Gustaf) d. 27 April 1859, at Lilla Bergsgården, Bredene, Smula, Falköpings, Västergöttland, Sweden.
4. Johannes Alfred Andersson, b. 27 Jan. 1862 at Lilla Bergsgården, Bredene, Smula, Falköpings, Västergöttland, died 20 July 1863, same place.

Her daughter Johanna Mathilda "Tillie" was born when Johanna (Nilsdotter) Anderson was 44 years old. The father of Tillie, Johannes Andersson and his brother Sven Andersson had tried their luck seeking their fortune in Australia before 1865. They failed, and came back to Sweden. Then Sven Andersson emigrated to north of Nelson, Douglas County, Minnesota, and sent for his brother Johannes Andersson, Johanna (Nilsdotter) and their two living children Gust and Johanna Mathilda, just age 2, to come to Minnesota in 1868. They left their parish of Smula in May 1868, signing out of the parish with permission to emigrate on May 4. Sadly, just 2-1/2 years later, Johannes, the father, died 15 days after being severely injured while cutting down trees with some other men of the area. Johanna and her children had no choice but to stay on the farm and work it on their own, sometimes with the help of neighbors and Uncle Sven.

Sister of Gustav Nilsson; Maria Nilsdotter; Johannes Nilsson; Sven Nilsson; Sara Nilsdotter; Anders Nilsson Ljungstrand; Clara Nilsdotter and Claes Nilsson.
