Darwin Anderson, 81
Darwin Anderson, age 81 of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 1996 at the Fairview-Riverside Medical Center in Minneapolis.
C. Darwin Anderson was born on September 16, 1914 in Osakis Township, Nelson, Minnesota to August and Ida (Youngner) Anderson. Darwin spent much of his life farming in Osakis Township, south of Nelson. He was united in marriage to Alice Brouns on January 8, 1944, in Osakis. They retired to live in Osakis in 1990 and two years after Alice's death in 1992, Darwin moved to the Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Darwin was interested in and active in local politics having served first as a member of the Nelson School Board and later as a Douglas county Commissioner. He also felt strongly about supporting and serving his community, having served on the Bard of Directors for the Rural Electric Association, Douglas County Mental Health Board, Douglas county Hospital, the Central States Power board, the Minnesota Valley Breeders Association Board and the Nelson Cemetery Board. First and foremost, however, Darwin was interested in farming. He loved to attend agricultural events and exchange ideas on the latest farming techniques. He continued to help his on the farm for as long as he was able.
Darwin is survived by his son, David Anderson of Osakis, his daughter, Dawn and Dennis Jaeger of Goodwin, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Kevin and Andrea Jaeger and Alyssa Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his wife, Alice, who died February 5, 1992 and a brother Douglas Anderson.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 10, 1996 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Nelson with Reverend Merlin Bartelt officiating. Musicians were organist Barb Sather, and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment was at the Nelson Cemetery in nelson.
Honorary casket bearers were Robert Mostad, Clarence Erickson, Norman Johnson, Ray Thunberg, Kenneth Peterson and Melin Lommmen.
Active casket bearers were George Moon, Bill O'Brien, Jim Dyrud, Marvin Eddy, Dean Anderson and Ralph Daniels.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, Minnesota.
