CHAMPAGNE, REV. RENE, CP, 89, died Monday, October 25, 2010.

A native of Lockport, LA, he professed his Passionist vows in 1942 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1949. As a priest, Fr. Champagne generously served as secretary to both Passionist provincial and world-wide leadership, parish minister, retreat center staff, local community assistant leader and minister of prayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emelienne Richard Champagne; sisters, Lucille LeBlanc and Rita Creswell; and brothers, Robert Sr. and John Champagne.

He is survived by his Passionist community; sisters, Vivian Dolan, Marie Bergeron, Sr. Marguerite Champagne and Helen Gautreaux; and brothers, Hubert, Patrick and Richard Champagne.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Passionist community chapel, 1924 Newburg Road, with burial in the Passionist Monastery Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Passionist community chapel. There will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Bosse Funeral Home.
