Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Niels & Nielsine; brothers, Carlo & Helmer & sister, Norma Starkey. Survived by children, Paul, David (Mary), Carol Hitz (Gary) & Kay Esler; grandchildren, Paul & Laura Andersen, Alex & Sarah Esler & many other relatives and friends.
After World War II, he opened Andersen's Texaco in Wayzata & later owned Egon's Mileage Service. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the Army Air Corps in January of 1942. As a Master Sgt. in charge of armament for the 347th fighter squadron he participated in the invasion of Casablanca, North Africa. Also served in Corsica, Sardinia & Italy & was awarded the Bronze Star & the Soldier's Medal. He had been a member of American Legion Post 118 since 1945 & was a Past Commander.
He was also a former Rotarian, former member of the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce & a Wayzata volunteer fireman for 29 years. He volunteered at Hillcrest Healthcare Center, was an active member of the Wayzata Historical Society, helped restore the steamboat Minnehaha, was a past president of the Wayzata Athletic Club & received the Wayzata Trojan Of The Year Award for his support of Wayzata athletics. He was a graduate of Mound High School where he made many lifelong friends. In July of 2002 he was recognized by the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce as their "Person Of The Year" & on September 9, 2002 received the "Good Neighbor" award from WCCO radio.
