Joseph F. Caton - Helen K (Roerty) Caton
Phillipsburg Husband, Wife Die within Hour

Joseph F. Caton, 62 of 332 Thomas St., Phillipsburg, was dead on arrival at Warren Hospital yesterday. He had been ill since September.

His wife, Mrs. Helen K. Caton, died 45 minutes later, shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

Mr. Caton was born in Phillipsburg, a son of the late Patrick and Margaret Welsh Caton.

He worked as a welder for Bethlehem Co. for 36 years. He retired two weeks ago.

Mrs. Caton also was born in Phillipsburg, a daughter of the late Owen and Margaret McDevitt Roerty.

She had been employed as a fitter for Kasover Pants Co., now Mr. Pants in Easton. She retired in 1962.

Both were members of Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg. Mr Caton also was a member of Phillipsburg Elks Lodge 395 and the Liberty Hose Co., and Fleas Club of Easton. Both were members of the Phillipsburg Catholic Boosters Club.

Among their survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Kathy Matlock, Phillipsburg, and two grandchildren.

Mr Caton's survivors also include two brothers, Edward and Philip, both of Phillipsburg; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Lynch, Phillipsburg; Mrs. Sue DeSosso, Peapack, NJ; Mrs Mary Smith, North Tonawanda, NY, and Mrs Helen Rumold , Parkside, NJ.

A joint funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday from the Doyle Funeral Home, Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sts. Philip & James Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
