Kathryn May Hammes, 96, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Spang Crest, Lebanon, PA. She was the wife of the late Myron H. Hammes. Married for 39 years, he passed away in August, 1991.

Born in Philadelphia on April 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Mace McShea. Kathryn's childhood was spent in Middleport, Schuylkill County. She was retired from Northern Lebanon School District where she had taught at Jonestown Elementary for 24 years. Kathryn served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in San Diego. She earned her B.A. in Education from Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University.

She is survived by her son, John M. Hammes, husband of Andray Yauck Hammes of Grantville; Daughter, Cynthia Hammes Cardi, wife of Louis Cardi of Glenmoore; sister Mary E. McNabb of Jackson Springs, North Carolina; grandchildren Zachary Hammes, Bethany Hammes, Ashton Cardi, and Marco Cardi.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Anita Reber and Arlene Murray.

A viewing will be held on Saturday evening from 5-7 P.M. at the Kreamer and Lum Funeral Home and Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown. Interment will be held on Monday at the Fairview Cemetery in Kutztown.
