Ruth Andersen, 80, passed away at the Mountrail County Medical Center in Stanley, Wednesday, September 22, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Pursuant to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Monday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Stanley.
She was born on May 15, 1930 in Steele, ND to George and Ellen Stuntz. She attended Steele High School. She married Floyd Andersen of Palermo and had five children. They lived in Blaisdell where she worked as the school cook and custodian. In 1968, she moved to Stanley and worked at Anderson Department Store and then for the Stanley Community Hospital for 20 years as a nurse's aide. She became the first female EMT with the Stanley Ambulance Service and provided service for over 20 years. After leaving the hospital, Ruth worked as a dispatcher for the Mountrail County Sheriff's Department. After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, she worked part-time at the golf course and the Quik Stop. Ruth was known throughout the community for her sewing and baking skills, most especially her homemade donuts. She enjoyed volunteering at the Bethel Home, reading and working in her yard. Ruth was a member of the American Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Board of Directors for the Community Housing Development Authority.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters Lois, Mary and Sylvia.
