Jervey J. Bewley, 71, a former resident of Anderson, who had lived in Craigsville, Va., the past 12 years, died Wednesday in a Staunton, Va., hospital of a sudden heart attack suffered several hours earlier at his home in Craigsville.
He served in Would War I with the rank of sergeant and was attached to a a division at Camp Meade, Md., which was preparing for overseas service when the Armistice was signed in 1918.
He was formerly connected with commercial fertilizer plants of Swift & co., at Baltimore, Cleveland and Chicago.
In Craigsville, he was connected for more than ten years with the Chevrolet automobile dealership. He also served the baseball club of that city, a member of the Valley League of Virginia, as secretary and treasurer for a number of years.
Born in Union, he was a son of the late William D. Bewley and Mrs. Emma W. Bewley. He was never married.
Surviving are three brothers and four sisters, William W. and W. S. Bewley of Anderson and D. Hale Bewley of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Samuel W. Kluttz of Chester, Mrs. William W. Goforth of Staunton, Va., Mrs. F. W. Felkel and Mrs. Theo Burriss of Anderson.
He was a member of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral Services will be held in Craigsville today and the body will be brought to Anderson for burial in the family plot at Silverbrook cemetery where private grave side services will be held Friday Morning.
