The Advocate Messenger, Danville, KY 1983:
Forkland- New Washington, once a thriving town along Little South Rolling Fork of Salt River, is gone. Only stories handed down by families in the Forkland Community in northern Casey County, a few giant timbers used in the mill, and court records of the town’s establishment, remain.
A Survey for Martin Conder, filed in Casey County clerk’s office Jan 9, 1819 says the site for a town called New Washington, containing 25 lots, each containing 72 poles, being 12 poles in length from North to souty and six poles in length from east to west, was situated in Casey County on the Rolling Fork of Salt River and on the tract of land then occupied by Jacob Huff…. Some of the families who purchased land from Jacob Huff between 1817 and 1821 were Hight, Herrington, Minor, Libres and BRINTON. Other families known to have lived there were THARP, Conder, BURNS, Shelton and Carpenter. Families by these names still live in that area along the Boyle, Casey and Marion County lines. .... Bryant Brinton Sr. and his wife Jane Burns Brinton, raised five children, James, Bryant Jr., Nancy, Jane and Thomas. Thomas was Bohnstedt’s tie with the Brintons.”
