Jessie Mae (Courtney) Ketcham, daughter of Charles and Eva (Surface) Courtney, was born May 6, 1915, at Randolph, Iowa, and received her education in the Sidney, Iowa School System. Jessie died Friday, Feb. 9, 1996, at her home in Shenandoah. She was 80 years of age. On Dec 8, 1937, Jessie was united in marriage to Merrill W. Ketcham at Lincoln, Neb. Following their marriage, they made their home in Morton Township south of Shenandoah, where they farmed until moving into Shenandoah in 1976.
Jessie was employed as a sales clerk at Mode-O-Day and Jewell's Dress Shop in Shenandoah for 15 years. She was a member of the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister Gladys Eckland; one brother Delbert Courtney; an infant daughter Debra Kay; and her husband Merrill on Feb. 18, 1995.
Survivors include three children, a daughter Carol Ketcham of Omaha, Neb., two sons, Larry D Ketcham and his wife Nancy of Moore, Okla., Jerry and his wife Kathy of Shenandoah, seven grandchildren, James Ketcham of Dallas, Texas, Debi Johnson of Moore, Denise Bolden of Harrah, Okla., Kristi Murphy of Omaha, Nicki Ketcham of Ames, Iowa, Dusti and Mandi Ketcham of Shenandoah, and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Kelley of Sidney, Winfred Mount of Shenandoah and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Services were held from the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1996, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Madden giving the words of comfort. Organist was Margaret Woods and soloist Cindy Kelley.
Caring for the flowers were Carol Cline and Louis Pease. Attending the memory register were Lois Funkhouser and Merileee Vavra.
Ushers were Jim Bonwell and Bob Funkhouser. Honorary bearers were "All Of Our Special Friends."
Casket bearers were Dave Freeze, Bob Marshall, Charles Pease, C. D. Pease, Curt Pease, and Bob Vavra.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa.
