George James Goens/Gowens was a son of James and Maryan Goens/Gowens. After the death of his mother, the family migrated to Mills County in the mid 1850's.
George married Rebecca Mary Baker on 4 May 1868. Children born: James Freelove, Louisa J, Sarah Ann, George William, and Charles H.
In 1880, a typhoid outbreak claimed the lives of many in the area. George succumbed to the illness on 19 October. George's sister Elizabeth Ellen Turner died in September, nephew George W. Turner died December 3rd.
