Isabella M. Alters, formerly of Spring Mills, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2017, at Centre Crest. She was 98. Born October 4, 1918, in Spring Mills, Isabella was a daughter of the late Charles and Helen Hetzel Ulrich. She married Lawrence S. Alters who preceded her in death on August 1, 1968.
Isabella retired from Gettig Engineering in Spring Mills with 20 + years of service. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. Isabella enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, reading, crocheting and bird watching. She was known in family circles for her wonderful pie baking. Isabella never went to sleep at night before reading her Bible.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce M. Boob of Bellefonte; one son, Samuel L. Alters of Spring Mills, and two granddaughters, Sheila Stevenson (David) of Bellefonte and Angela Jordan (Todd) of Aaronsburg. Also surviving is one sister, Catherine Bickle of Bellefonte. In addition to her husband, Isabella was preceded in death by three brothers, Nevin, Sumner and Oscar Ulrich.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 12th, from 9:30 11:00 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow immediately with Pastor Dawn Marie Meier officiating. Isabella will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery.
