He was born Donald K McCartney in Michigan to English immigrants Robert and Alice McCartney. He married in his late teens and had one child. In his mid 20s, Phil decided to change his name to Philip Lord. He reloacted to California where he married Dorothy Zord. He had two children with Dorothy.
