STRAWN - Thelma E. Benway, 78, of Strawn died at 9:40 p.m. at her residence after a five-year illness with ALS.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City; the Rev. Linda J. Johnson and the Rev. Robert Spilman officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Strawn. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Gibson City Hospice.
Mrs. Benway was born April 11, 1920, at Cropsey, a daughter of Joseph F. and Elizabeth Dart Taylor Seifert. She married William Marlin Benway on Feb. 22, 1944 at Gibson City. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Karen (Jim) Haab, Bloomington; Diane (Bill) Lewis, Whitmore Lake, Mich.; and Sandy (Tim) Bradford, Bloomington; one sister Velda (Frank) Henry, Sibley; one brother Kenneth (Maureen) Seifert, Sibley; and one son-in-law, Ernie Wade, Strawn; four step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jeff Haab and Todd (Diane) Haab, both of Normal; Robin Wade, Gibson City; Renee (Chad) Tjarks, Sibley; Ramie Wade, Strawn; and Nicole Vetter, Whitmore Lake, Mich.; and two great-grandsons, Dalton and Dallas Wade, both of Gibson City.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharen Wade, two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Benway lived in the Strawn area for 54 years. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to her family. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed baking, canning, and crocheting and especially enjoyed taking care of her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
