He was the son of George Beadle and Nanny Rutter, His wife was Margaret Johnson and with their two children, John and Ann immigrated to America in 1833. They sailed from Liverpool abord the ship "Constitution" and arrived in New York City. They then made their way to Pottsville Pa. later to Weaversville Pa. and in 1846 to Wiconisco Pa. Here they raised a family consisting of John, Ann, Robert J., George, and Elizabeth (Lizzie).
Robert was employed as a manager on the 1850 Federal census under the name Bedle. On the 1860 census he can be found under the name Beath.
Robert's father George Beadle (b. 1783) was the son of John Beadle (b.1758) and Sally Race.
John was the son of George Bedel (b.1732) and Mary Hodgson.
George was the son of John Bedel (b.1695) and Margaret Bell.
All resided in Middleton-in-Teesdale and were engaged in lead mining.
