She was born in 1815 as Margaretha Stelloo in the city of Delft in the Dutch southwestern province Zuid-Holland, the seventh of eleven children of the 33 years aged laborer Hendrik Stello (ca. 1781 Hannover, Germany - 1849 Delft) and Antje van den Dool (34 y, 1779 Maasland - 1866 Vlaardingen).
Margaretha Stelloo, her husband Rijkert de Jong, 32 y, merchant in wood and turf (= dried peat, the most important fuel in those days), and their children lived in August 1845, when their son Klaas was born, in district 6, house number 393 in her birthplace Delft.
Margaretha (51), her husband Rykert DeJong (53) and their children Rykert (26), Antje (24), Gertrude (21), Hendrik (22), Klaas (20) and Aaltje (18) arrived in 1866 on the SS Prins Edward at the port of New York.
In 1880 Margaret and her husband Richard De Young (67, laborer) resided in Sheffield, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.
