Samuel T Hager was born in Dayton, Montgomery, OH on 14 Dec 1917 and died on 6 May 1993 in Beavercreek, Greene, OH. He died of heart disease at the age of 75.
He was the son of John Franklin Hager and Dora Viola Lackey Hager, who moved from Statesville, Iredell, NC around 1914.
Samuel married Joan Amelia Bartley Hager (12 Apr 1929-28 Sept 1985) on 26 Aug 1949 in Dayton OH. They had three children (Rebecca Jo Gerber, Dennis Samuel Hager, Douglas Spencer Hager) and six grandchildren (Amanda Jean Gerber, Alicia Marie Gerber, Amelia Katherine Gerber, Nathan Douglas Hager, Stephen Andrew Hager, Chelsea Adele Hager).
Samuel had two brothers (Archie King Hager and Fred Lackey Hager) and two sisters (Effie Mae Hager Walke and Marjorie Dean Hager).
Samuel grew up on Stainton Ave in Dayton OH and graduated in 1936 from Dayton's Stivers High School. After graduation, he was a buyer at the old Home Store in Dayton OH and later at Elders & Johnson's department store. This is where he met Joan Bartley, the love of his life. He also ran the Lee Wood Lumber Company in Beavercreek OH for several years. He later worked for the Dayton Tire and Rubber Products Corp which later became Dayco Corp for 30 years. He had a love of wood working which he received from his father and his grandfather, both of whom had managed wood mills back in Statesville, North Carolina.
Sam's parents modeled christian values and he later developed a strong faith. After marrying Joan, he became a member of Belmont United Methodist Church where for many years he served as treasurer and usher. His favorite Bible verse was Phil 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."
He taught his children the value of hard work and was the consummate "handyman" as he possessed the skills to repair most anything. He built three grandfather clocks for his children and other pieces of furniture. He loved automobiles and his first car was a Ford model T. He would get a new car every three years, mostly all Fords, his last car being the Ford Crown Victoria.
