Dr. Robert Louis Carter, Jr. passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at a Baytown hospital. He was born May 17, 1934, in Baytown, TX, to Bobby and Virginia (Cook) Carter. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting with his grandsons. He loved saltwater fishing and was a fast pitch softball pitcher in his younger days. Dr. Carter retired after practicing dentistry in Baytown for many years. He was a Fellow and Life Member of the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow and Life Member of the American College of Dentists, a Fellow and Life Member of the International College of Dentists, and a Fellow and Life Member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He was a graduate of the University of Texas Dental Branch, class of 1961, and a member of the Baytown Dental Study Club for 34 years. He was a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and served as President of the Houston Chapter in 1981 and on the Board of Directors for 8 years. He also served on the Texas Chapter Board of Directors and was a National Delegate for 4 years. He was a Life Member of the Texas Dental Association and a member of the Houston District Dental Society where he served on numerous committees. Dr. Carter was a Past Grand Master of the PSI Omega Dental Fraternity, Consultant to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, a member of the University of Texas Dental Branch Alumni Association, the Den-Pac Century Club, a sponsor of the Texas Assoc. of Health Occupation Students of America and Team Dentist for Robert E Lee and Ross Sterling High Schools. He was a member of the L. D. Pankey Alumni Association and Project A.C.T. International College of Dentists. He was a member of the Baytown Rotary Club for 20 years, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, and the Costal Conservation Association. He was an advisor to the Robert E Lee High School Pre-Med and Pre-Dental Club. He was a Lee College Distinguished Alumnus, a United Way Board Member, and a Consultant to the American Red Cross. Dr. Carter also completed 1400 hours of post graduate study in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Carter is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Lou Carter, and sisters, Alice Becker and Mary Nan Redmond. He is survived by his wife, Judy Carter, of Baytown; sons, Robert Alan Carter and wife, Wanda, of Baytown, Randy W. Lindstrom, of Baytown; daughters, Luanne Angel and husband, Greg, of Baytown, Nancy Devlin and husband, Kurt, of Houston; brother, Dr. John Ross Carter and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, Macy Lou Carter, Katelin Carter, Melissa Tillman, Christy and Paul Fowler, Chance ,Terra, Billy Chase, and Austin Angel, Bowey Devlin, Gina and David Bloom, and Kurt and Sarah Lindstrom; great grandchildren include Reagan and Riley, Jenna and Julian, Carter and Jerat, and Abby; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
