Ruth Alne, 86, of Columbus, IN, formerly of Vermillion, SD, died at 11:06 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Born July 23, 1925, in Vermillion, SD, Mrs. Alne was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Petersen Nelson.

She was a 1943 graduate of University High School in Vermillion, SD, and attended a cadet nursing program at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, IA.

She married Harold Alne in Vermillion, SD, on November 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1992.

Mrs. Alne was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, SD, and First Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Alne will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN, with Pastor Larry Isbell and Pastor Edward Boone officiating.

Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at the church.

Private burial will be at Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion, SD.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation.

Mrs. Alne is survived by a daughter, Carol (Gary) Walters of Columbus, IN; two sisters, Mary Prindle of Salt Lake City, UT, and Carrie Munger of Howard, SD; two brothers, Glen (Chelaine) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Harold (Olga) Nelson of Valparaiso, IN; and two grandsons, Marc (Samantha) Walters of Indianapolis, IN, and Eric (Michelle) Walters of Fishers, IN.
