Accident on Route II Fatal to Pedestrian, Oliver L. Boyer, 84

Oliver L. Boyea, 84, of 421 East Main Street, victim of an auto-pedestrian accident, died before hospital aid could be reached when he was struck by a car driven by Anthony O. Sorell, of Lower Park Street at about 6 p.m. yesterday on the Malone-Chateaugay Road. State Police of Troop B barracks working on the case said that Mr. Boyer was walking east on Route II approaching the junction of the Brainardsville and Chateaugay roads when he was felled by the Sorell car, proceeding in the same direction.

Coroner E. A. Cargill, called in on the investigation, said that an inquest would be held later.

According to members of Mr. Boyer's family, he had been visiting his sister, Mrs. Phelena Cherrier, Edward St., yesterday afternoon and had left the Cherrier home at about 5:30. It is presumed that he was taking a short walk out past his home on East Main before dinner time when he was struck.

Mr. Boyer was born in 1861 in Malone, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bazil Boyer. He lived here all of his life and in earlier years was a farmer. Later he and Mrs. Boyer were caretakers at St. John's Hall, on the Notre Dame Church Morton Street property, for several years. Mrs. Boyer died in February, 1937, and since that time he had made his home with his son, Ozias.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and belonged to the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the old St. John's Society of Notre Dame Church until that organization ceased to exist.

Surviving Mr. Boyer are four sons: Ozias of Malone; Herbert of Massena; Oscar of Tupper Lake, and Leo. Other survivors include a brother, Ozias, of Malone; five sisters, Mrs. Phelena Cherrier, Mrs. George Yando, Mrs. Fred Yando and Mrs. Peter Badore, all of Malone, and Mrs. Sarah Robinson of Mt. View; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be found in Funeral Notices.
