Wayne Douglas Coffelt, 67, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 11, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS, with burial to follow in the Miller Cemetery, Everest, KS. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in honor of Wayne are suggested to Kansas State University Cancer Research. Wayne was born on June 19, 1945 in Atchison, KS, the son of Albert Frederick and Lorena Patricia (Purchase) Coffelt. Wayne grew up and attended schools in the Denton, KS, area. He drove semi-trucks and worked as a heavy equipment operator all of his life. Most recently, Wayne worked as a heavy equipment operator for Kanza Construction Company, Topeka, KS, where he retired in 2010 as foreman. Wayne was a Life Member of the V.F.W #6760, St. Joseph, MO. Wayne enjoyed cooking and loved being with his family; he especially enjoyed teasing his grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Coffelt of Maryville, MO, Kimberly Short of Highland, KS; sons, Justin Coffelt of Barnard, MO, Bryan Coffelt, Wesley Coffelt, Christopher Coffelt, Vernon Spinner of Liberty, MO; daughter-in-law, Kim Coffelt; son-in-law, Doug Richardson; brother, Charles Coffelt, Louisville, KY; sisters, Alberta Goans, Excelsior Springs, MO, Elaine Hazlett, Lawson, MO, Deborah Temple, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Devon Low, Hannah, Coulton and Blake Richardson; Trevor, Anna, Anthony and Kennedy Coffelt and great-granddaughter, Laila Richardson.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oran Hearn and Larry Coffelt; a sister, Betty Westmoreland.
