Martha Barton, well known Nanaimo daughter, passed away at Nanaimo Hospital last evening following a brief illness. The late Mrs Barton was born in Nanaimo 70 years ago and was the daughter of the late Thomas Bolton who was one of Nanaimo's colorful pioneers, and was a hotelman in the early days.

Her passing will come as a great shock to her many friends in Nanaimo and district as she was an active member of the Housewives League and also the Women's Council. Her husband William Barton predeceased her in 1940. She is survived by one son, William, also three grandchildren, Doris, Shirley and Jack of Cassidy, also one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Westwood Hirst Funeral Home, with Rev J H Wright officiating. Interment will take place at the family plot Nanaimo.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Martha Barton, well-known
resident and native daughter of Nanaimo, who passed away on
Thursday evening, were held from the Westwood Hirst Funeral
Home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J. H. Wright officiating.

During the services the hymn "Lead Kindly Light" was sung and a solo, "In The Upper Garden" was rendered by Mr. Dave Arnett, who played his own accompaniment at the organ. Pall-bearers were Frank Shaw, Alex Raines, Frank Stove, Clide Stove, Wm Hunter, and Thomas Jones.

Among a profusion of beautiful flowers, a casket spray from the family was noticeable, other flowers which are gratefully acknowledged are as follows: Spray, Her grandson, grand-daughter, great-grandson and Frank; Mrs. A. Hunter and Family; Mrs. Ed Harley, Women's Labor League, The Denton Family and Marg; Margaret, Tommy, and Shep; Mr and Mrs. George Raines and Family; Dick and Nana; Violette and
Audricious; Mr and Mrs Joe Pickering; Mr and Mrs. W. Hadden,
Vancouver; Bea and Roy, Vancouver; Mr and Mrs J. Rayer; Mrs. Joe. DeCoeur,Amy and Brownie; Mr. Bill Thompson, Mr and Mrs. R.H. McLellan and family; Mrs and Mrs. T. Richmond. The Stove Family.

Interment took place in the family plot, Nanaimo cemetery.
