Born Georg Friederich Hermann Borges. Frederick was married to Christine Caroline Charlotte "Lottie" Gehrke. They lived and raised their first seven children in Hanover, Germany. Fred and family immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York aboard the ship 'Hermann' on September 16, 1871. From there, they proceeded to Waverly, Iowa where they settled for a time. While there, two more children were born to them. The 1880 census has Frederick and family in Mount Ayr, Kansas. Fred is recorded working as a farmer. That year, their last child, Augusta, was born. The child died in infancy. The mother, Charlotte, appears to have died in childbirth. Fred moved his family to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1881. While here he found employment with one of the railroads.
