John H. Chuhra, 64, of Karns City, who was instrumental in organizing Pony League and Little League baseball in Butler, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday in Butler County Memorial Hospital, shortly after being taken there by Petrolia Volunteer Firemen's Ambulance. Born in Butler, Nov. 21, 1913, he was the son of John E. and Nellie Samborski Chuhra. He was a member of Karns City United Methodist Church. A U. S. Army veteral of World War II, he was retired from Armco Steel Corporation Plant Protection Department, with 40 years service. He was a member of the Butler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, and Disabled American Veterans Association.
His first wife, Carrie Ruth Smith, died in 1953. On Jan. 24, 1964, he married Margaret Grace McClaine. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Grace McClaine Chuhra; two daughters, Mrs. Vance (Ruth LaVonne) Wallace of Columbia, S. C., and Mrs. Richard (Sally Ann) Chase of Mentor, Ohio; a son,, John Edward Chuhra III of Butler; two grandchildren; a brother, Michael Chuhra of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Ann Corsi of Grenada Hills, Calif,; and a number of nieces and nephews. A brother preceded him in death.
