Leonard L. Garrison moved to Fayette County PA in about 1774.
He served in the Revolutionary War -- was drafted at Jarretsford in Greene County, PA July 1777. He was 17 years old. He was under the command of Samuel Swingler. He served two months on missions involving defense of the frontier against Indians. A few days after returning home there was another Indian alarm; he again was called out and went under the command of Stephen Gapen and some subordinate officers, this time for a period of six weeks. In May 1778 he was again drafted for two months service which took him into Westmoreland County under Lt. Henry Myers and into Fayette County near the Virginia kine under Col. Alexander McClean. In September 1778 he went out in a party of which Georfe [George] Garrison was in command for a term of six weeks or so. These tours of active service added up to about seven months. Subsequently he was selected as a volunteer minuteman to be ready at a moments notice for service on the frontier, where the "savages" periodically committed robberies and murders. In the capacity he was called out for short tours as a scout or spy for the purpose of countering Indian depredations, and he served on these short tours until the end of the war.
